Valley Emergency Medical Services (VEMS)
In December 2012, NWCTPS secured an agreement with the Town of Middlebury to consolidate their PSAP and law enforcement dispatch into the NWCTPS Regional Communication Center. This service was added to the original dispatch agreement for Fire and EMS, established in 2004.
Ansonia Rescue Medical Services (ARMS) and Ansonia Fire Department were forced to leave their long time dispatch provider. They came to NWCTPS searching for a team to take over dispatch services for Fire, EMS, and CMED, all within 3 months. By September of 2014, all services were successfully transitioned.
The Ambulance and Fire services within Derby, although separate entities, are intertwined and require a unique set of dispatch protocols. These services for the City of Derby were all transitioned alongside the City of Ansonia in October 2014.
The Advanced Life Support (ALS) fly-car service provided by VEMS is essential to patient care and emergency response. For the five towns they serve, VEMS provides ALS in conjunction with Basic Life Support (BLS) provided by the local EMS providers.
